Why did the series “Victory Time”, which airs every Monday on US + 24 on OCS, end at the end of the friendship between director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell?
In the early 2000s, their association produced some of the best American comedies of the last twenty years: brothers despite themselves, very bad cops, star anchor … Adam McKay being in the production, and Will Ferrell in the lead role. The poster was the winning formula for many of these feature films, which is considered a cult by many viewers.
In recent years, the filmmaker’s career has grown dramatically, with films that are not without humor but with much more serious content: The Rise of the Economic Crisis of 2008 (The Big Short), War Crimes Committed by a Former US Vice President. Dick Cheney (Vice) and more recently Environmental Issues (do not search).
What seemed to be a simple break in their collaboration unfortunately took on a more confrontational form. Los Angeles Lakers unconditional fan Will Ferrell did his best to convince a friend that he would play Jerry Buss, the former owner of the team, in the new HBO series, Winning Time.
After several exchanges, Ferrell finally agreed that the role should be taken by Michael Shannon, an experienced comedian whom McKay preferred to take advantage of, a decision that seems to have been made by the former Saturday Night Live star. But a few weeks before filming began, Shannon – barely satisfied with the show’s bias – finally decided to leave the show and forced the director to find a replacement for him.
Adam McKay not only did not want to entrust the role to Will Ferrell, but even worse, his choice of their common friend John S. Stopped at Reilly. Worse, the filmmaker made this decision in a way that did not even consider it appropriate to talk to him about it in advance. After the director admitted in an interview with our colleagues at the Hollywood Reporter, “I broke down,” he was convinced that the two men would no longer speak to each other, because of his greatest regret.
The HBO series Winning Time airs in France every Monday exclusively on US + 24 OCS.
