A Bambi horror film is in development, with the project being led by Rhys Franke-Waterfield, the director of the Winnie-the-Pooh horror film, ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey’.
Although he is best known for the animated film by Disney, the origin of the character is Austrian, taken from the book “Bambi, the story of a life in the forest”, by Felix Salten. The story focuses on the titular stag starting with the loss of his mother at a young age. He befriends other forest animals, deals with dangerous human hunters, and finds a mate.
In addition to the Disney film, Bambi the Deer has been adapted for screen and stage several times, but now the craziest version of the character will be produced. According to central terrorwriter-director Rhys Frake-Waterfield is developing a horror story, which will add a horror twist to the children’s classic.
Waterfield will produce the film, while Scott Jeffrey will direct. ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions, involved in the Winnie the Pooh horror, are also attached to this new project. Jeffrey explained the new project:
“The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Drawing inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will play a ruthless killing machine hiding out in the desert. Get ready for Bambi in Rage!” he said.
Bambi’s new non-children’s movie doesn’t have a title or a scheduled release date yet.
