After criticizing Elon Musk, Jim Carrey announces he’s leaving Twitter

Elon Musk’s new administration has seen several artists and famous Twitter accounts leave. With that, Jim Carrey, who has criticized the businessman on other occasions, is yet another celebrity leaving the platform.

The actor and comedian announced the decision on Tuesday (29). In his farewell tweet, Carrey posted a video of an animation he produced based on one of his paintings of him, something he’s indulged in after stepping away from theaters.

“I’m leaving Twitter, but first here’s an animation I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward,” wrote Jim Carrey. “It is based on an old painting of mine of a mad old lighthouse keeper, naked in a storm, summoning angels and shining their light to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much!

In recent years, Carrey has used Twitter assiduously and posted his works on the platform, several times they were paintings and illustrations that contained social or political satire – in one of them the criticism was aimed at Elon Musk.

In cinemas, the actor is known for iconic performances in films like ˜The Mask’, ˜Ace Ventura’, ˜The Truman Show’ and ˜Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. Carrey’s most recent work was this year’s Sonic 2 as the character Dr. Robotnico.

Carrey, incidentally, is not the only celebrity to leave Twitter after Musk’s controversial attitudes on the social network. Even well-known names such as Stephen Fry, Shonda Rhimes and Whoopi Goldberg have decided to leave the platform after the entrepreneur’s arrival.

Twitter’s latest controversial measure concerns its policy to combat disinformation about the covid-19 pandemic, which will no longer be enforced. “Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter will no longer enforce its COVID-19 misleading information policy,” the network said in a statement.
