Tupy announced on Wednesday the completion of the outsourced engine maker MWM, a deal that will allow the 84-year-old Brazilian metallurgical company to enter the market of electricity generators for agribusiness and other applications.
Entry into the segment will take place with the adaptation of the generators to the use of biogas, biomethane, biodiesel, natural gas and hydrogen. It will also allow the combined group to adapt commercial vehicles to use these fuels.
“Biogas production in Brazil is inherent in the scale of the Brazilian agribusiness,” said José Eduardo Luzzi, president of MWM.
According to Tupy, this is in line with the company’s initiatives announced in 2021 to develop materials, geometries and machining of components suitable for the use of hydrogen as a fuel and for flex-fuel hybrid passenger cars; as well as the recycling and reuse of lithium batteries.
Tupy announced the purchase of MWM for BRL 855 million in April this year, and the deal will also allow the company to enter the engine parts and component replacement market in Brazil, as MWM has more than 600 points of sale and about 300 workshops.
MWM reported net sales of approximately 3.2 billion reais in the 12 months to October. The Ebitda margin was 6.5% and Roic above 20%, Tupy informed in a material fact on Wednesday.
