‘The Rings of Power’: ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor says he would never do the series

Actor Bernard Hill, who played the character King Théoden in two films of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy (‘The Two Towers’ and ‘The Return of the King’), was interviewed by Metro and criticized the series “The Rings of power”. According to him, the production would be a “slot machine”.

“No, I’m not interested,” Hill said, when asked if he followed Amazon’s version of Middle-earth. “It’s a slot machine and I’m not interested in watching or participating in the show. Good luck to them and everything else, but it’s not like the real thing (the movies),” he added.

In the interview, the actor was asked about story continuity after the trilogy and mentioned the three “The Hobbit” films. In his opinion, the story of Bilbo Baggins was a happy adaptation, unlike “The Rings of Power”.

“I think they were pushing when they made ‘The Hobbit.’ It’s a tiny book. They did well, they did really well,” Hill commented. “They’ve expanded, but I think you can only stretch a piece of rubber band so far. I think they took that into “The Hobbit” because there was some really good stuff in the book, no doubt about it.

Despite Hill’s criticisms, ‘The Rings of Power’ will return for more episodes on Prime Video and the next season is already in production. Amazon, however, has not yet released a release date for this second part of the series.

According to co-showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McCay, part of the second season of “The Rings of Power” was already written before the first episodes of the series were released. However, they have assured that they are listening to the opinions of the fans for the continuity of the production.
