Fuvest addresses militias, women’s suffrage and conflicts in Africa in the first phase

The test followed the trend of Unicamp and Unesp and also covered current affairs, but the absence of questions on covid-19 attracted attention

The first stage of Fuves 2023 is applied this Sunday (4). Following a trend also present in Unicamp and Unesp, the USP entrance exam required very current topics. According to Giba Alvarezdirector of the Cursinho da Poli and specialist in education and entrance exams, the test was very contemporary and very Brazilian, without forgetting the great international issues.

“At the same time that he focused on conflicts on the African continent, Fuvest also brought topics that are very pertinent to the Brazilian reality, such as the world of work, the militias in Rio de Janeiro and women in politics,” analyzes Alvarez.

Clarissa Andreatti, a candidate for a music degree, says that in the question on militias the alternatives spoke of illegal violence by militias and violence permitted and controlled by the state.

Despite being very topical, the 19-year-old says she failed the test directly of major topical issues, such as the war in Ukraine. “One of the questions had an anamorphosis map of the number of refugees of some countries, and at the end there was Ukraine, but you didn’t need to know recent information about the war to solve it,” he says.

The test, however, also addressed an important historical context of the conflict, which was the end of the Soviet Union. “One of the applications contained a cartoon of Gorbachev, with the hammer and sickle snapping, and a text that spoke of the independence of the republics of the USSR,” said Ingrid Luisa, who is applying for a position in the Nutrition course.

On the other hand, Sunday Paiva de Oliveira, 22, in his second year of Medicine, draws attention to a hot topic that was not highlighted in the test: covid-19. “Different from Enem, who faced lack of access [à educação] for low-income students during the health crisis, Fuvest didn’t explicitly talk about the pandemic itself.”
