The Senate plenary starts the discussion on the Transition PEC

This Wednesday, the plenary of the Senate began the discussion phase of the Transition PEC, which expands the spending ceiling of 145 billion reais for two years to allow, among other things, the payment of the Bolsa Família of 600 reais.

After the discussion, the vote on the proposed amendment to the Constitution will begin. The PEC needs at least 49 favorable votes among the 81 senators, in two rounds of voting.

At the beginning of the vote, the main text of the proposal is voted on. The highlights, which are amendments to be voted on separately, must then be analysed.

There are at least two highlights that address the cap expansion term and reduce it to just one year. One of these amendments also concerns the amount to be increased in the tax rule, limiting it to 100 billion reais.

Approved by mutual agreement the day before by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Senate, the Pec authorizes an extension of the ceiling by an amount 30 billion reais lower than that initially requested by the elected government. It was also agreed that the new government will send a new fiscal framework by August 2023.
