The Kremlin says the Griner-Bout prisoner swap is not a sign of improvement in US-Russia relations

The Kremlin said on Friday that the prisoner swap deal to swap Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout for American basketball star Brittney Griner should not be seen as a step toward improving bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington, they said. Russian state news agencies said.

“The talks were exclusively on the topic of exchange. It is probably wrong to draw hypothetical conclusions that this could be a step towards overcoming the crisis in bilateral relations,” the Kremlin spokesman told TASS news agency.

“Bilateral relations remain in a pitiful state,” he added.
