Messi named man of the match as Argentina beat the Netherlands on penalties

This Friday, Argentina advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup, after beating the Netherlands, on penalties, 4-3, after a 2-2 draw in regular and extra time. Star player and number 10 of the South American team, Lionel Messi was elected man of the game.

After being a major player in the brothers table over Australia, in the round of 16 Messi appeared once again and led the team to the semi-finals. The player gave a perfect pass to Molina to open the scoring in the 35th minute of the first half.

Then he took a penalty in the second half and extended it to Argentina. Scaloni’s team would have conceded a draw with a brace from Weghorst, but won on penalties. Messi was also the first collector and converted.

The match was even more special for the Argentine star, who scored once again in a World Cup, equaling Batistuta’s mark as the Argentina team’s top scorer at the World Cup. Both have 10 goals scored.

Now Argentina has its next match on Tuesday, for the semi-final of the tournament. Scaloni’s team faces Croatia, who eliminated Brazil, again on penalties. The duel takes place at the Estádio Lusail, at 16:00 (Brasilia time).
