The Italian president tests positive for Covid-19

Mattarella is asymptomatic but has canceled public events

The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, tested positive for Covid-19 and went into solitary confinement this Saturday (10), his cabinet said. As a result, some public events scheduled for the next few days have been cancelled.

“The president, despite a slight fever, is substantially asymptomatic and continues to perform his duties, but isolated in the apartment of the [Palácio] Quirinale”, reads the press release.

Mattarella is 81 years old and has taken all the vaccine doses available for his age group in the country. The president has had a busy schedule this week, having visited the cities of Monza and Milan for state and cultural events.

This Friday (9), even the country’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, had to cancel official appointments due to the flu. 🇧🇷
