Paulo Nobre questions the absence of Palmeiras players in the Brazilian national team

THE Brazilian team has been deleted since world Cup traumatically last Friday, losing on penalties to Croatia in the quarter-finals. This Saturday, the former president of Palmeiras, Paulo Nobre, used his social networks to question the absence of Verdão athletes in Tite’s team.

In the publication, the former Palmeiras coach said he was not upset about Brazil’s elimination, but regretted the result for the Brazilians who were frustrated with the selection’s performance.

Asking about the lack of Palmeiras athletes in coach Tite’s squad, Paulo Nobre listed Verdão’s successes in recent years.

“It could be that a team that has won, in the last 8 years, 9 major titles (2 Paulistões, 2 Copas do Brasil, 3 Brasileirões and 2 Libertadores da América) doesn’t have any player, from the line, with the ability to help the national team The Brazilian team has no one special, how can it be champion so many times in a row?” wrote the former president of Palmeiras.

“Well, gentlemen, “our selection” is going very well, thank you! And we Palmeiras, with all due respect to the feelings of others, have no reason to be sad, on the contrary! You have not identified the value in the Palmeiras team ?” concluded Paulo Noble.

The only Palmeiras athlete in Brazil’s squad for this World Cup was goalkeeper Weverton, who played a few minutes in Qatar, entering the second half of the defeat against South Korea, in the round of 16.

In all of their World Cup victories, Brazil have had at least one Palmeiras player. In 1958 Mazzola was the representative of Verdão. Four years later Djalma Santos, Vavá and Zequinha were present. In 1970 Leão and Baldochi were also crowned champions. Already in the tetra, in 1994, Zinho and Mazinho were the current palmeirenses. Finally, at featherweight, in 2002, Marcos was the starting goaltender for the campaign.
