São Paulo has already announced the arrival of two reinforcements for 2023 and is about to conclude negotiations to sign two more players: midfielder Wellington Rato, from Atlético-GO, and striker Marcos Paulo, who belongs to Atlético from Madrid. .
For next season, San Paolo has already formalized the arrivals of striker Pedrinho, from Lokomotiv, Russia, and goalkeeper Rafael, ex Atlético-MG, but the board does not intend to stop there.
Wellington Rato has been monitored by San Paolo for some time and is seen as the replacement for Igor Gomes, who should not renew with the Tricolor, given that his contract expires in March. The number 10 of Atlético-GO has received other offers from Fortaleza, Vasco and Cruzeiro, but he wants to land at Morumbi.
The big problem is that Fortaleza’s proposal was more appreciated by the Atlético-GO management, even if the player has no desire to move to Leão. There is therefore an impasse between the top management of the Goiás club and the staff of Wellington Rato, who have tried at all costs to free the athlete in San Paolo.
Despite the impasse, there is optimism from the São Paulo board and Wellington Rato staff in relation to the move. This also applies to Marcos Paulo. The forward revealed by Fluminense and who currently belongs to Atlético de Madrid welcomes the return to Brazilian football to play in the Tricolor, a club where he will have the opportunity to become a regular.
The San Paolo board of directors is only waiting for Atlético de Madrid to leave to sign the 21-year-old striker on a loan deal valid until the end of 2023. Wellington Rato will join Morumbi on a permanent basis, with a bond valid for three seasons.
San Paolo remains alert to market opportunities to continue strengthening its squad, which is undergoing a major overhaul. Seven departures have already been confirmed and coach Rogério Ceni has worked together with the board, even meeting during the holidays, to have a more heterogeneous group, with different alternatives to arm the team.
