After the arrest of an indigenous leader linked to the Bolsonarista movement, supporters of the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) attempted to invade the headquarters of the Federal Police in Brasiliaon the night of this Monday 12. The group set fire to vehicles and also confronted the police, who tried to drive away the protesters with rubber bullets and tear gas.

The arrest of the indigenous José Acácio Serere Xavante was carried out by the PF, on the order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). According to the STF, the temporary arrest, for ten days, was ordered at the request of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), for indications of threat, persecution and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law.

According to the PF, Xavante held demonstrations at the National Congress, at Brasilia International Airport, where he invaded the boarding area, at the Park Shopping mall, at the Esplanada dos Ministérios and in front of the hotel where the president-elect was staying , Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Silva (PT), stays on.

Faced with the news of the arrest, hundreds of Bolsonaro supporters, wearing green and yellow T-shirts, gathered in front of the institution, located in Asa Norte, using pieces of wood and stones. While attempting to break into the building, they were stopped by security officers. They broke some cars near the building and even cars.

At least three vehicles were set on fire and others were vandalized, as evidenced by images circulating on Twitter. Riot police used stun bombs and tear gas to drive away protesters.

The case took place on the same day that the president-elect and his deputy, Geraldo Alckmin, were certified by the Higher Electoral Court (TSE). This is the last formality before the inauguration, which will take place on January 1st.

After the violent acts on Monday, the security forces strengthened the police at the hotel where Lula is staying.
