The green economy can generate 24 million new jobs

For job creation by 2030, business leaders need to implement new policies and research sustainability knowledge

By 2030, 24 million new jobs will be created worldwide if policies are implemented to promote a greener economy. The forecast is from the International Labor Organization (ILO), which lists, again in this context, the creation of 3 million jobs in the Americas, 14 million in Asia and the Pacific and 2 million in Europe.

In turn, the ILO underlines the need for knowledge, especially from the corporate world, regarding appropriate policies in the pursuit of sustainability. The Organization also stresses the importance of companies combining policies that include social protection, environmental policies, workers’ income and the transition to a greener economy.

In view of this, it draws attention to preparations and actions aimed at sustainability issues. As an example, he cites the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which in the last edition held in Egypt led to a package of decisions, involving countries and various sectors of the economy, to limit the increase in global temperature to 1 .5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Similarly, the ILO organizes annual international labor conferences, with training and access to training for business leaders. Another resource is the Youth Compact, a partnership with the United Nations and agencies, which aims to close the skills gap for young people in developing countries, address climate-vulnerable sectors and provide for the creation of a million of green jobs.

For the founder and principal executive of the Latin American Quality Institute (LAQI), Daniel Maximilian Da Costa, companies of all sizes are increasingly aware of the need for training. Based on the affirmation of the ILO and the more than 150 Brazilian entrepreneurs and organizations from Latin American countries, gathered in Panama City, in November, during the three days of the 16th edition of the Quality Festival, the executive highlights the growth trend in search for knowledge.

“Corporate leaders are more attentive to the application of ESG practices, corporate reputation, climate change, the use of technology, in other words, any policy that collaborates in the creation of new green jobs. Participation in large international conferences is an example of this willingness,” he says.
