Actor Tom Cruise (“Top Gun: Maverick”) has posted a video to his Twitter profile showing backstage filming for “Mission: Impossible – Reckoning”. At nearly 10 minutes long, the video features interviews with the actor and with director Christopher McQuarrie talks about the dangerous scenes that were shot for the film.
Of the scenes shown throughout the video, the highlight is the motorcycle jump over a huge cliff, which ends with the actor parachuting into a remote valley in Norway. As usual, Cruise shot the entire scene without using stunt doubles.
You can see the happiness of everyone involved when they realize that the scene went exactly as planned. And the result looks great.
Another sequence explored in the video is a moment where Cruise jumps with a parachute. Interviews with the technical team detail the difficulties of filming in free fall, even more so when it comes to camera movements where the operator has to circle around Cruise as he falls.
In addition to Tom Cruise, “Mission: Impossible – Reckoning” will also see the return of Rebecca Ferguson (interpreter of the character Ilsa Faust), Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn) and Henry Czerny (who lived Eugene Kittridge, director of Mission Force: Impossible in the first feature film).
Newcomers include Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter”), Shea Whigham (also “Agent Carter”), Pom Klementieff (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Esai Morales (“Titans”), Cary Elwes (“Saw” ), Indira Varma (“Game of Thrones”), Rob Delaney (“Catastrophe”), Charles Parnell (“The Last Ship”) and Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”).
Also written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, responsible for the two previous films in the franchise, “Mission: Impossible – Reckoning” will be divided into two parts, with releases scheduled for July 2023 and June 2024.
