Avatar director reveals why he shot sequels to the film at the same time

Director James Cameron was interviewed on Entertainment Weekly and one of the topics of conversation was obviously about the franchise. avatars🇧🇷 In the chat, the director revealed one of the reasons that led to the decision to record at the same time Avatar: The Way of Water🇧🇷 Avatars 3 and part of Avatars 4🇧🇷

Cameron commented that a very strong reason for this choice was the child actors of avatars🇧🇷 According to him, the franchise avoids “the effect Stranger things“, which would be the rapid growth of youth among the parties that will come out – and with that they will no longer look like children in the story.

In Avatar: The Way of Water, several young characters are introduced and among them are Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss) and Spider (Jack Champion), who were respectively 7 and 12 years old when they were cast – currently, the actors are 13 and 18 years old. Cameron said Champion was already “growing like a weed” when he was cast and knew the decision to shoot sequels would have to come.

“Otherwise you get the effect Stranger thingswhere they should still be in high school but look like they’re 27 — and I love it Stranger things“said the director. “You know, I love the show. All right, let’s forget the disbelief. We like the characters, but… you know,” he added.

In addition to having recorded two complete sequences of avatars at one time, Cameron also waited to start recording until all the scripts, from Avatars 2 by the fifth film, they were ready. The director revealed in an interview with Collider that his working pattern bears similarities to Peter Jackson’s decisions with the trilogy Lord of the Rings🇧🇷

“They jumped at the opportunity to release all three films,” Cameron commented. “But he planned the books, so he could always show the actors what they needed to know about their character arcs. So I felt like I should do the same thing,” he added.

“I had to enter the game as if the books already existed. So the only way to do that was to write all the scripts and let the actors read all the scripts and see where their characters were going and what they meant. Not that it’s viable right now, but I think it’s something actors can work on to prepare their characters.”

Avatar: The Way of Water is showing in cinemas. The third part of the saga has already received a release date from Disney and is set for December 20, 2024.
