Lula wants Simone Tebet at Ambiente in double with Marina

Senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS) can do the “double” with the deputy elected Marina Silva (Rede-SP) in the Ministry of the Environment. The idea is defended, behind the scenes, by President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but there are still disagreements in the PT about what this model would look like.

Marina was environment minister in Lula’s first term, when she was still a member of the PT, but she was worn out by the party. If she comes under PT leadership, Simone will be responsible for the environment and Marina will be responsible for the Climate Authority, a position to be created.

The idea is that the Climate Authority is housed under the Environment framework. So far, however, Marina has resisted this configuration and prefers to be a minister. Simone, in turn, does not want to get into friction with his colleague.

Third in the presidential race, the MDB senator supported Lula in the second round of the electoral campaign. Simone, she wanted to command Social Development, but the portfolio is seen by the party as the “heart of the government”. It was not acceptable for the PT management to leave Simone, a possible opponent in the 2026 dispute, in a position of such high visibility and, with one of the highest budgets in the Esplanada.

In announcing the list of 16 ministers, Lula said it was more difficult to put together a government than to win elections. Between the lines, he sent a message to Simone, emphasizing that he and the PT are “indebted” to many who have helped him in the electoral campaign. “President Lula knows the role he played and Senator Simone Tebet knows it,” Dias said.

In the final report of the transitional cabinet, the proposal is that the Climate Authority functions as a kind of self-sufficiency linked to the environment. Marina disagrees and wants the job to be directly subordinated to the ministry. The leaders of the PT, in turn, believe that it would be appropriate for the function to remain within the Presidency of the Republic.

Faced with these doubts, Simone’s situation is not defined. To allies, the senator who is leaving her mandate this year said that she prefers to stay out of government in order to receive a “consolation prize”.

Yesterday Lula received the president of the MDB, Baleia Rossi (SP), senators Renan Calheiros (AL) and Eduardo Braga (AM), as well as the party leader in the Chamber, Isnaldo Bulhões (AL), to discuss the party’s participation in the government.

The president-elect will give three ministries to the MDB, guaranteeing Simone in the first step. At the meeting, Lula said that Simone will join the team in his personal share. Senator-elect Renan Filho (AL) will be in charge of Transport and Deputy José Priante (PA) is the name indicated so far for the Ministry of Cities, which will be recreated. Priante is a cousin of the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, who has yet to be consulted.
