Last Christmas pardon by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) grants pardons to police officers convicted of the Carandiru massacre, which took place in October 1992. The benefit was published in the Official Journal of the Union this Friday 23.
To grant pardon to the 69 officers convicted of the police action, which caused the death of 111 prisoners, the decree includes the insertion of an article considered rather controversial.
The text states that security agents may have been pardoned for crimes committed “in the exercise of their function or as a result of it, having been sentenced, even if provisionally, for an act committed more than thirty years ago and not considered the time of their practice has now been atrocious.”
