“Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical” refers to “Matilda”

Netflix premiered ‘Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical’ in its catalog and there are those who couldn’t help but compare it to the 90s film.

Despite having major differences between them (like the fact that this 2022 version is a musical), there have been those who have noticed that this new ‘Matilda’ has a nod to the Danny DeVito film.

That’s what @shannonlada proved on Twitter, as she realized that the mothers of Matilda’s friends who appear in the musical number ‘When I Grow Up’ are hiding secrets in their clothes.

For example, Matilda’s friend’s mother with braids wears pink, wears glasses and also wears this signature hairstyle, which also comes with two small pink bows.

This is the same look that Amanda’s character had in the 90s movie starring Mara Wilson (who is one of the celebrities who unexpectedly quit acting).

He is usually the regular voice of Danny DeVito (who, in addition to directing, played Matilda’s father in the 90s) in all the films he makes.

In this sense, although the actor does not appear in “Matilda the Musical by Roald Dahl”, his character has the same voice, which could be interpreted as a nod to “Matilda” from 1996.

And you, did you notice those sneaky references to Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda the Musical’? What did you think of this new version of the story?
