In his blog, George RR Martin said on Wednesday (28) that the changes to HBO Max, which in the near future will be called Discovery +, have left the future of the diverse Game of Thrones series uncertain.
After WarnerMedia merged with Discovery in April of this year, HBO Max has had a significant cut in its original productions. Series such as ‘Love Life’, ‘Minx’ and ‘FBoy Island’ have been cancelled. And the impact was so great that it even worried Martin about the Game of Thrones spinoffs.
According to the author, only the second season of House of the Dragonn, which scored record numbers in its last episode, is fully saved. “Some [seriados derivados de Game of Thrones] they are moving faster than others, as development always does,” Martin wrote.
“None of them have been greenlit yet…maybe soon. Some have been archived, but I disagree that they are dead. You can take something off the shelf just as easily as you can put it on the shelf. All of the changes at HBO Max have definitely had an impact on us.”
George RR Martin was unclear which series suffered from the ongoing changes to HBO Max. Six projects are in development, including: the prequel series The Tales of Dunk and Egg, 10,000 ships (focusing on Princess Nymeria) and a spin-off chronicling Jon Snow’s trajectory after the latest events of Game of Thrones.
