Rashford scored the only goal of the game against Wolverhampton this Saturday as the king of football was honored once again
OR Manchester United they beat Wolverhampton 1-0 this Saturday, with a goal from Rashford, in a match valid for the 18th day of the English championship, and achieved a third consecutive victory in the restart of official matches after the break for the World Cup. Previously, he beat Burnley for the English League Cup and Nottingham Forest. The match was marked by a tribute from the Brazilian striker Anthony to King Pele.
As in other European football matches played since Pelé’s death was announced on Thursday, the match at the Molineux stadium was preceded by a tribute to the football king. An image of him was projected onto the stadium screen while the players, positioned in the center of the field, gave a minute of applause, accompanied by the audience. During the ovation, Antony lifted his United shirt and showed another piece underneath, on which was written the phrase: “Rest in peace, Pele”.
After kick-off, the striker, who defended the Brazilian national team at the World Cup, was one of the elements in the Manchester squad’s attacking sector that had the most initiative. He showed a good rapport with midfielder Bruno Fernandes and played some good moves in the last quarter of the pitch, although he also made some mistakes in making decisions. On the other hand, Wolverhampton were looking for Diego Costa, an attacking reference, to pose a danger, but he failed to score, as did United.
The first half finished goalless and both teams returned with substitutions for the final tournament. Rashford replaced Garnacho in the away team and Diego Costa made way for Adama Traoré at home. The most efficient substitution was made by Erik Ten Hag, as Rashford was responsible for the winning goal, in the 30th minute, after scoring through Bruno Fernandes.
With the triumph, Manchester United have 32 points and are in fourth place in the English league, but may still be overtaken by Tottenham, who play on Sunday. Wolverhampton are in the relegation zone, with 13 points, in 18th place.
