Serbia beats French in first national singles match after last year’s troubles
Monday’s doubles loss didn’t shake Novak Djokovic. The Serbian, fifth in the world, started the season on the right foot in singles this Tuesday at the ATP 250 in Adelaide.
In his first match in Australia since the cheating that culminated in his expulsion last year, Nole defeated Frenchman Constantin Lestienne, 65th, 2 sets to 0 with partials of 6/3 6/2 after 1h14min duration.
The first set saw the break in the sixth game and Nole opened 5-2 to finish 6-3. In the sequence, you broke out in the second, made it 2 to 0, broke again later and gave no chances closing for 6/2 without getting scared.
His opponent in the round of 16 will be another Frenchman, Quentin Halys, 64th. The two have played only once, in 2016, at the Australian Open, with the Belgrade native triumphing.
