Do I suspect Covid? Know the symptoms of the disease

To date, Covid has reached more than 653 million people and claimed more than 6.6 million lives. Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, Sars-cov-2 has undergone several mutations, putting the protection guaranteed by vaccines and preventive contamination in check. The latest variant identified by WHO is Omicron, designated as a variant of concern on 26 November 2021.

Due to the mutations, the disease has also transformed. This is because, over time, new symptoms and after-effects left by Covid have been identified. Incidentally, some of the common signs of contamination can be quite unusual. However, the disease is currently easily confused with other respiratory infections, such as the flu.

Symptoms of covid

According to the Ministry of Health, the most common symptoms of Covid are:

  • runny nose;
  • Cough;
  • Burning throat;
  • Difficulty breathing.

In severe cases, the patient may experience:

  • High fever;
  • Increased heart rate (tachycardia);
  • Chest pain;
  • Tiredness;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Pneumonia;
  • Acute respiratory failure;

Prevention

Also according to the Ministry of Health there is no specific cure for Covid. Therefore, it is important to follow the prevention recommendations:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Avoid close contact with sick people (the recommendation is more than one meter away);
  • Stay home when you are sick;
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Afterward, throw it in the trash and sanitize your hands;
  • Avoid sharing cups, plates or other personal items;
  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that are frequently touched by several people;
  • Sick people should postpone or avoid traveling to areas affected by the coronavirus;
  • People who have been to areas where the virus has been circulating, who have had physical contact with someone diagnosed, or who have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing should seek immediate medical attention.
