Atopic dermatitis is known as a chronic and hereditary disease, responsible for inflammation of the skin, the appearance of lesions and itching. It is the type of disease that develops in childhood. Dermatologist Clessya Rocha what are the symptoms and how to treat this condition.

Clessya says dermatitis is triggered by substances that trigger allergic reactions, such as those found in pet hair; environmental conditions, such as itchy clothing; or emotions, one of many examples is stress.

“There are several ways to treat the disease. We have medicines that help control it, such as ointments or creams that are very effective in controlling atopic dermatitis, special moisturizers to improve the skin barrier, as well as the use of probiotics, which are beneficial live bacteria which will help modulate the intestinal immune system,” he explains.

The doctor also explains below what the infections are and that this case deserves the treatment of a dermatologist, with also the need for some oral medications.

“Patients may need oral medications in severe cases. Lesions caused by scratching the skin along with modification of the skin barrier and skin flora can lead along with secondary bacterial or viral infections and should be treated by a dermatologist” , he admits .

The Ministry of Health has already positioned itself on the fact that the symptoms vary according to the stage of the disease and can occur in three stages: infantile stage (from three months to 2 years), prepubertal stage (from 2 to 12 years) and adult stage (from 12 years).

The research carried out by IPEC (Instituto Intelligence in Research and Consulting) at the request of Pfizer in August 2022 involved 2,237 people from various “corners” of Brazil and accused that 60% of the participants deal with untruthful information on atopic dermatitis.

There are the additions that 36% said it was a simple allergy, 24% did not comment on this topic. The people involved in this experience are over 18 years old. In total 41% are unaware of the disease, this percentage increases by 50% in men and reaches 56% among young people between 18 and 24 years. Also 20% of internet users don’t know how to identify the symptoms.
