The acclaimed BBC series sherlock it hasn’t won new episodes since 2017, and one of its creators, Steven Moffat, recently asked in an interview with the series’ leads, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, to return for at least one last season.

Moffatt added that she “would start writing [a 5ª temporada de] Sherlock Tomorrow” if Cumberbatch and Freeman agree to once again reprise their respective roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
The most recent three-episode season of Sherlock aired in 2017. In it, Sherlock and John were forced to deal with a convoluted storyline orchestrated by Sherlock’s sister, Eurus Holmes (Sian Brooke). The season ended hinting at more adventures to come.
Despite the open ending of the fourth season of sherlock, there is no indication that any more seasons will be produced any time soon. Moffatt has always expressed interest in producing more episodes of the series, confirming that Gatiss and producer Sue Vertue are also on board. As hinted in the Today interview, the sticking point remains the limited availability of Cumberbatch and Freeman, even if Moffatt insists he doesn’t hold it against either actor.
“They were very loyal to [Sherlock] for a long time when it first came out, when it definitely became the lowest paying job,” Moffat said. “And I don’t think that’s necessarily what they want to do right now: Fair enough, absolutely right.”

While fame and tight schedules propelled the series’ Sherlock and Dr. Watson performers, Cumberbatch is grateful for the production and recently suggested it sherlock garnered more fans for him than being Doctor Strange in the MCU. “I think that sherlockfor me, it had more reach than something like this Doctor Strange because it’s television,” he said. “It’s more democratic, the more people were watching it,” he told al Deadline.
