Learn how to turn on the flashlight by shaking your mobile using native resources or Android apps
There are a few ways to turn on the flashlight by swinging your mobile, but you need to pay attention to important details: what is the model and manufacturer of your device, what is the version of the operating system and if your device has a flashlight function.
Note that the option to turn on the flashlight by shaking your phone is a feature only on Android phones, as on iPhone (iOS) you can only enable the feature from the lock screen or by accessing the control center.

1. “Gestures” function (Motorola mobile phones)
THE Motorola pioneered the function of turning on the flashlight by swinging the mobile phone. Through the “Gestures” section (formerly “Moto Actions”) it is possible to enable the use of the quick flashlight by shaking the phone twice, being able to turn the component on or off without having to press any key.
To use gestures on Motorola phones, go to “Settings”, “Gestures” and then turn on the “Quick Flashlight” switch. It is worth noting that not all models of the manufacturer have this ability, so you need to check if this section is available on your device.
2. Quick Touch (Pure Android 13)
Since Android 13, the Google launched a feature called “Quick Tap”, which allows you to activate a specific function of the operating system by double-tapping the back of the phone. It’s not the action of swinging the device, but it’s the equivalent of what happens in Motorola devices, as it works through gestures.
To activate Quick Tap to turn on the flashlight by shaking the phone, go to “Gestures”, within the “System” option in the settings app. Then enable the “Quick Tab” switch and select “Turn on flashlight”. That said, now just give two quick taps on the back of the device to turn on the flashlight.
3. Apps on the Play Store (other phones)
For those who do not have a Motorola device or a “pure” Android 13 (or higher) system, the advice is to use third-party applications on the Google Play Store that can take advantage of the device’s gyroscope to turn on the flashlight by swinging the cellphone.
One tip is the free app Shivering light. Just install the tool on your device and authorize the camera usage permissions. Thus, when you swing your mobile, the flashlight will be activated. If you want to change the intensity of the light, go to the app settings.
