The American pay channel Syfy has released the first trailer for “The Ark”, its new sci-fi series. The preview details a bit of the story, which takes place 100 years in the future and follows a group of astronauts trying to survive aboard an out-of-control ship.

The production marks a resurgence of space productions on the channel, formerly known as the Sci-Fi Channel. After airing series such as “Battlestar Galactica” and “The Expanse” (canceled in 2018 and saved by Amazon Prime Video), the network suffered a setback with “Nightflyers”, a million-dollar adaptation of a work by George RR Martin who did not get an expected return: the attraction was shown in Brazil by Netflix.

“The Ark” is set on a huge spacecraft known as Ark One (Ark One), which was in the middle of a colonization mission when it suffered an accident that claimed the lives of several crew members. With over a year left to reach the target planet and low on supplies, the survivors must take control of the ship and find a way to survive.

Developed by producers Dean Devlin (“Independence Day”) and Jonathan Glassner (“Stargate SG-1”), the series stars Christie Burke (“Maid”), Richard Fleeshman (“Sandman”), Reece Ritchie (“The Outpost “) and Stacey Read (“Zim High”), among others.

The premiere is scheduled for February 1 on the Syfy channel and streaming platform Peacock in the United States, but does not have a release date in Brazil.
