‘Wednesday’: What color is the Nevermore Academy uniform?

In the Netflix series ‘Wednesday’ it is clearly seen that the students of Nevermore Academy wear blue and black striped uniforms, even the sweaters or hats they have as accessories are the same blue as the uniform.

However, on the actors’ social networks, in some promotional photos and behind-the-scenes images, it appears that the color of the costumes is actually purple.

In a video for Netflix on November 23, 2022, costume designer Colleen Atwood, who has worked with Tim Burton since 1990, explained how the costumes were conceived and confirmed that they are indeed purple.

Discussing how Merlina is enrolled in school against her will, Towering Principal Weems welcomes the troublesome teenager, leaving her to wear a colorless uniform.

“They did her the courtesy of not forcing her to wear the purple and white uniform. she could have had a more gray and black school uniform in the style of Wednesday Addams. I think that immediately put her in a new world.”

This means that the costumes in the series were designed, designed and made in purple and black, all of the filming was done in these colors, but in post-production the color tone was changed to appear blue.

Although there is no official explanation as to why the color of the uniforms was changed, one reason could be that the combination of purple with the gloomy and gothic style of the show would give a very depressing or lifeless impression to each episode.
