The company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp classified the event as an “act of infringement”.
Meta — the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — has announced it will start removing and blocking content from its social networks in defense of invasions of the headquarters of the three powers of the Republic, in Brasilia, on Sunday (01/08).
The invasions were carried out by thousands of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) dissatisfied with the election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
A spokesman for Meta told the BBC it would immediately delete posts “asking people to take up arms or forcibly invade Congress, the Planalto Palace and other federal buildings”.
“We also classify this as an act of infringement, which means we will remove content that supports or praises these actions,” the spokesperson added.
“We are actively monitoring the situation and will continue to remove content that violates our policies.”
Meta has already flagged other major incidents, including the January 6, 2021 storming of the United States Capitol, as acts of violation. The policy allows the company to expedite the removal of harmful content.
On Sunday afternoon, thousands of supporters of former President Bolsonaro occupied the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in the central area of Brasilia and, from there, invaded and destroyed the structures of the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court (STF ) . ).

The invasion occurred after several calls made on social networks, such as WhatsApp groups. The invaders, opposed to the election of President Lula, are demanding the closure of Congress and military intervention.
In response, Lula decreed federal intervention in the Federal District’s Public Safety area through January 31.
“There are no precedents (for) what these people have done and, for this, these people will have to be punished for irresponsibility, this undemocratic gesture and this gesture of vandals and fascists,” Lula said, announcing the measure.
