Hugh Grant’s cameo as Phillip, the husband of Benoit Blanc, in the sequel to ‘Puñales por la Espalda’, has been commented on by its writer-director, Rian Johnson.
In one of the first scenes of the film, Phillip picks up a delivery at the apartment door while Daniel Craig enjoys a bath. Later, we briefly see Phillip again during a flashback showing what happened after he opened the door.
In his recent appearance on the podcast Spoiler Special of the magazine EmpireJohnson spoke more about Grant’s character.
“They are a couple. His name is Phillip. Basically, I thought about who I would be happiest if Benoit Blanc was with, and Hugh Grant came to mind.“, said.
“It was a real pleasure to be with him. He came on set one day, did that one disjointed scene, and trusted us to put it in the movie.“.
“I also love that she’s at home baking, trying to make sourdough bread.“continued the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ filmmaker.
“I don’t know if I see it as the Watson to Sherlock de Blanc, but it’s nice to have separate things. Besides, that apartment is too nice. I don’t think Blanc can afford it, so I think [Phillip] You have an important job.”
Grant himself, who will also appear in ‘Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ this year, spoke of his quick appearance in ‘Glass Onion’ during an interview with Collider.
“It’s a tiny moment. I don’t really know why they wanted to do it but it doesn’t matter… I thought ‘Puñales por la Espalda’ had been brilliant, so I thought: why not? And I flopped around for a few hours.”
