As reported Deadlinethe actor, who played Connell Waldron in the Starz miniseries, has thus secured an important role in the long-awaited sequel to one of the best films directed by Ridley Scott.
Apparently, will assume the role of Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commoduscharacters played by Connie Nielsen and Joaquin Phoenix in the first film.
Lucius was played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original film, and Mescal will play an older version of the character in the sequel.
In the first film, which won the Best Picture Oscar, Russell Crowe’s Maximum Tenth Meridian sought revenge for the deaths of his wife and son, coming to grips with Commodus in the process.
Scott revealed in 2021 that he was writing the script for ‘Gladiator 2’ and would direct it after finishing ‘Kitbag’, his next biopic about Napoleon Bonaparte.
Connie Nielsen, who has appeared in several DC films, has regularly updated fans on sequel news: “I know it’s among Ridley’s projects, and he has to do one or two more movies first, so that we’re going to see when it happens, because I’m not quite sure where it is at the moment.”
“Obviously it would be amazing, and I know a lot of people want to see more of it,” he said of a potential sequel. “I think all of us are going to have to see it as a separate and different movie, but with some of the emotions and values that made ‘Gladiator’ so powerful to so many people.”
