Fans of the vampire superhero have high expectations, will the MCU-made version of Blade be so different from the trilogy led by Wesley Snipes?
The new Blade interpreted by Mahershala Ali, which is currently in pre-production, is already looking forward to fans of the famous vampire Marvel.
It must be said that the last appearance of “Durnambul” dates back to 2004! The Blade Trinity was not well received after Guillermo del Toro’s second opus. So this release of the superhero had a bitter taste for the viewers who had better hopes for the last episode of the trilogy.
The release date of the new Blade has not yet been announced; However, it is said that the feature film will fill the vacancy left by Marvel by the end of 2023.
The character was vocally announced at the end of Eternals as a small teaser for fans. It is Mahershala Ali’s voice that is heard in the second post-credit scene of the film. He warns Dane Whitman, the same black knight, of the dangerous forces of the Ebony Blade sword.
However, how do you manage to combine the horror style of Marvel Comics with the MCU in a lighter and funnier tone?
Indeed, Blade is characterized by a much darker and more violent tone, which is in stark contrast to other superheroes in Marvel’s cinematography. The three films of Wesley Snipes are very violent and bloody. Thus, they obtained the R classification in the US (minors under 14 years of age must accompany an adult).
However, so far, all the superhero feature films in the franchise have been rated PG-13, which reduces cruelty and violence so as not to shock the youngest and attract the general public.
Therefore, in all probability, the knife embodied by Mahershala Ali will be lighter and less fierce than its predecessor. We certainly can’t see him cutting off vampire heads or being a bad guy obviously.

Moreover, the two actors who were interpreting the dumper (half human, half vampire creature) are also at odds with each other. Wesley Snipes is more sulfurous and fun, with many legal failures in his criminal record.
As for Mahershala Ali, she is an actress who seems to have a spiritually impeccable lifestyle, with a more peaceful personality than Snipes.
Therefore, the Blade camped by Ali would be a more zen and relaxed version, with a less aggressive aura. The journey of the two actors says a lot about this.
More bloody, Snipes was practicing martial arts for his own channel. Thus, he is a past master in certain disciplines such as kung fu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, capoeira or kickboxing. His fighting skills allowed him to play Blade, who relied heavily on his physical performance.
Ali, on the other hand, a two-time Oscar winner for Moonlight and Green Book, portrays Blade with a more aggravated interior. The 48-year-old actor, physically less intelligent than Wesley Snipes could have been, would have played more of his talent as a pure actor trained at Shakespeare, especially at the Tish School of the Performing Arts in New York.
Until we know more, Blade’s filming has not yet begun. If the end of 2023 is the horizon, it is possible that the film will not be released until 2024.
