BELOW THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF ‘DABS IN THE BACK 2’

The movie ‘Stabs in the Back: The Mystery of the Glass Onion’, one of the best movies of 2022, has just arrived on the Netflix movie catalog. There was a lot of expectation for this new installment after the success of its predecessor. When Rian Johnson’s first murder mystery story, originally titled ‘Knives Out’, was released, the world was still linking Daniel Craig to his memorable role as 007, having played James Bond in five films. His new character, Benoit Blanc, was someone unconventional, but at the same time someone very charismatic and who still had a lot to say.

Hence, now we have a new mystery to solve in this new installment, with new characters and another enigma to reveal in what is already one of the best Netflix comedies. Here Johnson takes us away from the interiors of the dark and traditional Cluedo-like mansion of the first to take us to another large luxury house, more modern and opulent and with the intention of not hiding anything (at first).. Now Craig is joined by Edward Norton, Janelle MonĂ¡e, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista and Kate Hudson, who, in case you didn’t know: the characters in ‘Backstabs 2’ are inspired by real celebrities.

What does the title, ‘Glass Onion’, mean?

The name of the house, ‘Glass Onion’, refers to its architectural style, and also, it is the name of a song by The Beatles that John Lennon, fed up with fans analyzing each of his lyrics, composed in 1968 making references to other songs by the famous Liverpool band. There was no message in it, just a compendium of phrases and mentions of places that looked good. With this idea, Johnson’s music lover (let’s remember that ‘Knives Out’ is a Radiohead song) would like to play with the story of the song and make reference to those “layers of glass” that exist in his story.

whatWhat did Benoît Blanc know beforehand?

The detective arrives on the Greek private island of tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) on a getaway Bron has arranged for his closest friends, nicknamed “the disruptors.” Recall those present: Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson), a fashion personality who now has her own brand, Birdie’s assistant Peg (Jessica Henwick), the influencers Duke Cody (Dave Bautista), his girlfriend Whiskey, also with extensive experience in social networks (Madelyn Cline), the scientist Lionel Toussaint (Leslie Odom Jr.), the governor of Connecticut, Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn) and also appears for surprise and uninvited also Bron’s former business partner, Cassandra ‘Andi’ Brand (Janelle MonĂ¡e).

Blanc pretends to have been another guest at the party, but in reality, as is discovered after the presentation of the film, a flashback takes us back to another time in the past where we find out that the detective was hired by Helen Brand (Janelle Monae). to discover which of those present could have murdered her twin sister, Andi.

Helen accompanies Blanc to the island posing as her sister, because the rest still don’t know yet that Andi has been murdered. While on the idyllic island secretly investigating the motives for Andi’s murder, someone else ends up dead, signaling the existence of a killer among them. They then shoot Helen at a time when those summoned there still believe that she is Andi. Helen (the fake Andi) survives, but that attack finally gives Blanc the motivation to identify the person behind these multiple crimes.

Who is the murderer in ‘Stabs in the Back: The Mystery of the Glass Onion’?

Who is guilty? Here is the great solution of the film. Well, the bizarre millionaire Miles Bron himself, the man who brought all his friends to the island for a private party..

In the course of the plot we find out that all the disruptors they were heavily in debt to Bron, whom they met in college and remained friends with while he and Cassandra built their huge tech company, Alpha. Claire Debella was running for the Senate and relied on Bron’s money to run the campaign. Duke Cody was a Bron-funded pro-right YouTube personality who wanted to make the jump to Bron’s 24-hour news network. And so everyone… Every person on the island had a reason for wanting Bron to stay in their lives…even poor Andi.. She was trying to stop Miles from completing his latest dangerous invention: Klear, an alternative energy source based on hydrogen. Andi was aware that she wasn’t entirely safe, but Bron ignored her warnings, so he legally removed her from the company he co-created with her.

The character played by Norton blackmailed all the disruptors into testifying in court that the core ideas behind Alpha were his and not the partner’s.. However, when Andi discovered a long-lost cocktail napkin that proved she came up with the formula for her first invention, Bron ended her life by poisoning her, passing off her death. for a suicide.

But Bron hadn’t ended there. While on the island, Duke learns of Andi’s death in the middle of the party and shows the news to Miles. Bron, knowing that he would soon be found out, reacts quickly and kills Duke by pouring pineapple juice into his cocktail, knowing that he is aware that the youtuber he is allergic to the fruit, thus causing his death. Miles killed Andi and Duke, and is also the one who shot Helen, although she was saved thanks to the diary she kept in her jacket pocket.preventing -almost miraculously- that bullet from harming him.

So what happens at the end of ‘Puñales por el espalda 2’?

At the end of the movie, Bron confesses to killing Andi. Nevertheless burns the napkin that would have allowed Helen to prove that her sister was the mastermind behind Alpha. However, Helen was not quite finished. The girl begins to destroy all the valuables in the luxury house of Miles, destroying glass statues and even a piano that belonged to Liberace. The rest of her joins her, finding it cathartic to finally strike back at the man who has held sway over them because of her fortune.

And that’s not all: Andi’s sister has one more trick up her sleeve. Amid the destruction, Helen starts a fire. She begins throwing sofa cushions and articles of clothing into the flames to increase them. Bron finally steps in to stop her little tantrum, but doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Benoit Blanc has passed him a small sample of that Klear, the dangerous hydrogen-based power source.

Helen throws it into the fire, it is sucked into the vents of Bron’s island mansion, which is 100% Klear powered. The entire facility explodes, flames ripping through every part of the mansion, destroying everything this self-centered billionaire has collected.. Including even the real Mona Lisa, which Bron had rented from the Louvre Museum because France needed money during the pandemic.

Thus it is shown that Klear is extremely dangerous for public consumption. Bron, in addition to being responsible for the annihilation of a priceless work of art ends up ruined, and Helen feels that she has finally met her revenge..

After the ending, what about the other characters?

None of them are better off at the end of the movie than when ‘Glass Onion’ started. His future still looks incredibly bleak..

As Claire (Kathryn Hahn) points out, she is a politician who took a vacation during a pandemic, on an island where there was a murder, and Miles Bron’s company was proven to be a fraud. That will also affect Lionel (Leslie Odom Jr.), who worked as Miles’ main research assistant at Alpha and knew many of Miles’ covert tactics. And then there’s Birdie (Kate Hudson), who trusted Miles to rescue her fashion company from trouble with the sweatshops that produce his clothes. Now that he’s gone, she’ll fall on that sword, taking her personal assistant, Peg (Jessica Henwick), with her.

    And what about Benoît Blanc?

‘Glass Onion’ leaves Benoit Blanc on a beach, smoking a cigar and ready for his next case. As he told Helen, his hands were tied regarding his obligations to the courts and the rule of law, so at the time Miles destroyed the napkin, the only proof he had of his sister’s achievements, Blanc he had no legal recourse to help his client. But he was the one who handed her the small piece of Klear before leaving the room.

You just have to wait a little longer, because Rian Johnson is already working on a third installment and a new case for this charismatic private detective.
