‘Glass Onion’: Rian Johnson responds to a fan theory about one of his protagonists

“I hope there isn’t some secret marketing department at Netflix funding this Twitter uprising.”

‘Knives in the Back: The Mystery of the Glass Onion’ revolves around Miles Bron (Edward Norton), a tech billionaire owner of an island, lover of great luxuries and with an absolute obsession to achieve his goals (despite the expert opinions of those around him, who try to convince him otherwise).

The premiere of the film has arrived at the same time as Elon Musk (tech billionaire) has seen his image affected after his purchase and takeover of Twitter. As such, fans have been quick to draw parallels between Bron and Musk (as well as create a whole list of celebrities that inspire the characters of ‘Glass Onion’).

Although the movie was written and shot long before the Twitter scandalMusk has starred in several “wacky moments” in recent years, so fans have been wondering if he would be the real inspiration for the character or not.

In an interview with Wireddirector Rian Johnson admitted that Bron was based on the billionaire style that Musk could identify with, but not on him specifically.

There are many common elements in that kind of ‘tech billionaire’ that served as inspiration,Johnson explained. But it is true that a rather strange similarity has been created with the current moment. A friend of mine said to me: ‘Man, it looks like you wrote it this afternoon.’ It’s been a horrible accident, you know?

The creator defined this coincidence between the film’s premiere and the Twitter drama as “very strange” and joked saying: “I hope there isn’t some secret marketing department at Netflix funding this Twitter uprising.

In addition, Johnson explained that, quickly, after selecting the billionaire as his main focus of the story, the rest of the archetypes/professions were easy to place.

It is an attempt to reflect, accurately, what has been happening the last 6 years in the cultural sphere,he added. It’s some kind of carnival nightmare.”

‘Daggers in the Back’ and ‘Daggers in the Back 2’ are available among Netflix movies. ‘Puñales por la Espalda 3’ has already been officially confirmed.
