The attacks by Bolsonarist radicals on the Three Powers headquarters in Brasilia on Sunday in pursuit of a coup against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are condemned by 93% of the population, and a majority of Brazilians defend the arrest of those involved , according to a survey by Datafol released this Wednesday.
The poll, published on the Folha de S. Paulo website, showed that only 3% are in favor of anti-democratic acts against the Planalto Palace, Congress and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), while 2% declared themselves indifferent and 1 % did not know. Folha said that the sum does not reach 100% because there is rounding.
The poll, which polled 1,214 people by phone on Tuesday and Wednesday, has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
According to Datafolha, 46% argue that all those involved in the attacks should be arrested, while 26% said that only a few should be arrested and 15% defended that the majority should be arrested. For 9% no one should be arrested and 4% could not respond.
On Wednesday, the Federal Police reported that they had sent 1,159 people to prison for involvement in the attacks, out of a total of 1,843 initially detained, ending the judicial activities of identifying and collecting testimonies of protesters who participated in the acts of looting.
An overwhelming majority of respondents said financiers of vandalism should be arrested, with 77% stating this opinion, compared to 18% who think they shouldn’t be arrested. They could not answer the 5%.
The poll also found that 63% of Brazilians believe that security forces in the Federal District have done less than they could to contain the invasions and destruction in the federal capital, compared to 24% who said DF forces have did what they should have. 6% did more than they should and 7% were unable to respond.
When asked about the role of the Lula government, 39% said they believed the federal administration had done what it was supposed to do, 37% that it had done less than it should have and 15% that it had done more than it should have. 9% did not know how to answer.
