HBO presented its adaptation of the game to the world The Last of Us, and initial reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with several critics hailing the production as the best adaptation of a video game ever made. But, in addition to pleasing critics and audiences, the series has also achieved impressive numbers upon its arrival on TV.

Based on data from Nielsen and HBO itself, the Sunday series premiere was watched by 4.7 million viewers, between the linear platform and HBO Max.

Based on the acclaimed video game of the same name, The Last of Us is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest shows of the year, produced on a huge budget and starring a truly beloved actor in the lead role. Pedro Pascal plays tough guy Joel, a grieving middle-aged man who survives some sort of pandemic and goes on a mission to post-apocalyptic America with teenage Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey.

The series has been enthusiastically received by gaming fans and laymen alike. Co-creators and executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said they were thrilled with the reception.
