The minister has replaced prisons with precautionary measures such as the use of electronic anklets and a ban on the use of social networks.
After analyzing 200 records of the custody hearings of detainees for participating in the January 8 attacks in Brasilia, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), released 60 suspectsthrough the application of precautionary measures.
In the decision, Moraes understood that so far there is no evidence that the detainees have committed violence, invaded buildings or looted property. The minister, however, has determined a series of precautionary measures, such as the use of electronic anklets and a ban on the use of social networks.
See the precautionary measures imposed:
- Prohibition to leave the neighborhood;
- Home collection at night and on weekends via electronic anklet that will be installed by the Federal Police of Brasilia;
- Obligation to report to the Execution Court of the province of origin, within 24 hours and weekly frequency, every Monday;
- Prohibition of expatriation, with the obligation to deliver the passport to the Execution Court of the District of origin, within the term of five days;
- Cancellation of all passports issued in Brazil in the name of the person under investigation, rendering them void;
- Immediate suspension of any weapons possession document by the suspect, as well as any certificates of registration for carrying out firearms collection, sport shooting and hunting activities; prohibit the use of social networks;
- Prohibition to communicate with other interested parties, by any means.
In all, there are 1,459 custody hearings that the minister will have to analyze. Since the invasion of Praça dos Três Poderes on January 8, more than 1,500 people have been arrested. Of that number, 1,200 were in front of the army headquarters, in Brasilia.
