Who is the greatest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It’s a question that could spark the kind of discussion you’d expect to have over a long period of time around a water cooler in the office (work can wait), or over a drink, or with the person sitting next to you. yourself on a bus (NB: this is a surefire way to ensure that no one wants to sit next to you on the bus). Is Tony Stark the rock upon which the MCU was built? Or perhaps the indefatigable Steve Rogers? How about Thor, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Black Panther or Doctor Strange?
The answer is none of the previous answers. The most important hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a boy without whom none of the events of Avengers ending – Steve wielding Thor’s hammer, Tony grinding Thanos to dust – it would even happen. A brave and noble soul who emerged from exile in an alien dimension to fuel the fight for the Avengers after five years of depression over the place. An ordinary man who proves capable of growing to the size of an ant. An Ant-Man, if you will.
So Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang aka Ant-Man deserves not only the respect and praise of an appreciative universe, but an upgrade in cinematic terms after two entertaining but rather understated outings. And with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania, the first film in Phase Five of the MCU, he gets that. “We wanted to start phase five with Ant-Man because he earned that job,” says producer Kevin Feige, who as president is truly the most important person in the MCU. “Not just being a stand-in or comic relief, but taking his place at the front of the MCU podium.”
The little guy is about to get his big break.
