Australian Open passes negative mark after Swiatek crash


For the first time in history the two main favorites fell so early between men and women

Poland’s Iga Swiatek’s elimination on Sunday meant the Australian Open broke a record for tennis at Grand Slam tournaments since the sport turned professional.

Never in history had the two main favorites in men and women lost before the round of 16. The Open Era began in 1968.

In this edition in Melbourne, Rafael Nadal lost in the second round and also Casper Ruud. Among the women, Iga fell in the eighth and Ons Jabeur in the second.
