In the fourth match between the rivals, the Mexican won; fans claim illegal coup and dispute Ultimate’s decision
Deiveson Figueiredo, the god of war, was overwhelmed by arch-rival Brandon Moreno and lost his flyweight belt. After sustaining a severe blow to the face, the Brazilian was medically unable to continue the fight, which ended up being stopped by the referee team. The decision was strongly contested by the fans present at the UFC Rio, who argued that Moreno’s action would have been illegal. Following the setback, Deiveson announced that he will be leaving the category.
The fateful move occurred in the first minutes of the third round, Deiveson suffered vision problems after the blow, unable to open one eye. With that, being unable to continue the fight, per Ultimate’s medical guidelines.
During the first round, the rivals studied each other a lot and tried shots from distance, thanks to the good guard put in place by both. At the end of the first stage, Moreno tried to surprise the Brazilian and brought him down. However, for a very short time, the tactic does not backfire and Deiveson does not immobilize him. But there was no time for anything else and he rang the bell.
For the second round, the Brazilian fans started pushing the God of War, who tried once again to immobilize the Mexican, this time with a guillotine, but also without success. In the final stretch of the fight, Moreno chilled the fight and kept Deiveson down, near the bars.
Deiveson further shortens Moreno’s space and looks for spaces in the Mexican’s guard. At the very beginning of the third half of the fight, Brandon delivered a strong blow to the face of the Brazilian, who even asked the referee to stop the fight, claiming that the Mexican would poke his finger in the eye. With denial and with much blood blocking his vision, the god of war had no choice but to cool off the fight and try to nullify his rival’s attacks.
From the third to the fourth round, the stands of the Jeunesse Arena directed many offenses to the referee of the fight, for the decision not to interrupt the fight, having understood that there was some illegality. Minutes later, the bout referee signaled that Deiveson would be unable to continue. There was widespread fan riot in the arena, even a cup and other objects were thrown towards the octagon. The Mexican was very hostile by the Brazilians.
At the end of the fight, the god of war was highly praised by the fans who shouted “He’s champion”. Deiveson didn’t reinforce the supporters’ chorus about a possible irregularity. He thanked and showed concern for the injury in the eye area. The Brazilian has announced that he will move up in category, as he understands that he no longer has the conditions or reasons to stay in flyweight after his recent successes
