The Russian Andrey Rublev, 6th in the ATP, conquered a good victory over the Danish Holger Rune, 10th, after saving two match-points and securing the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where the Serbian Novak Djokovic awaits.

Rublev fought for 3h39 and closed the score at 6/3 3/6 6/3 4/6 7/6 (11-9) after throwing 22 aces against nine from Rune, who committed 12 double faults against four of the the Russian, who hit 58 match-winning balls against the 44 of the Dane, who committed 60 unforced errors against the Russian’s 37.

The Dane risked short balls and won the break in the 4th game, opened 4/1 and remained confident. Serving for the game, Rune served a very solid Russian in the return leg and finished scoreless, after two unforced errors in a row. Rublev remained motivated, confirmed from scratch and put pressure on the Dane. The match went to a tiebreak, where Rune opened 5/0 and managed it, until he saw a reaction from the Russian, who turned away, he also served for the match with 9/8, but confirmed it on the second attempt.
