The legendary composer also does not rule out working for Spielberg again if the filmmaker asks him to.
Steven Spielberg will produce a documentary about who is perhaps the greatest film score composer of all time and his most precious collaborator: john williams.
During Williams’ more than 60-year career in Hollywood, the musician and director have worked together on dozens of films, most notably the scores for ‘Jaws’, ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘ET the Alien’, ‘Encounters in the Third Kind’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and the Indiana Jones Sagain addition to the last film for which, presumably, both will be nominated for the Oscars 2023: ‘The Fabelmans‘.
John Williams’ filmography is also completed with mythical scores such as ‘Star Wars’, ‘Superman’, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Home Alone’.
Spielberg described his friendship with Williams as the perfect, ideal marriage at the American Cinematheque celebration in Beverly Hills on January 12: “I don’t think we’ve ever had a disagreementSpielberg said, adding with a smile, “I mean, what am I going to do? Sit down and write the music myself?“
At that same event, John Williams put a brake on his retirement by stating that he would be willing to continue after ‘Indiana Jones 5’, if Spielberg asked him to:”steven is many things. He’s a director, he’s a producer, he’s a studio head, he’s a writer, he’s a philanthropist, he’s an educator. But he’s not a man you can say ‘no’ to.”
The documentary will take into account, in addition to the work and friendship between Spielberg and Williams, the composer’s achievements, such as being the most Oscar-nominated person alive, with fifty-two Academy Award nominations and five Oscar wins.
Alongside Spielberg and Amblin Television is Laurent Bouzereauresponsible for a large number of documentaries on the ‘making of’ and behind the scenes of many films (among them, those of Spielberg), who will be the director of the documentary on the figure of the musician.
Until then, we can enjoy his work in ‘The Fabelmans‘, which will be released within our borders next Feb. 10and in the new installment of the saga ‘Indiana Jones: The Dial of Fate‘, with a release date set for June 30th.
