Francis’ mass in the Congo expected more than 1 million faithful
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said on Tuesday (24) that there is no threat to Pope Francis’ trip to the African continent.
The director of the Holy See’s press office confirmed that the local authorities are working to ensure the safety of the leader of the Catholic Church.
“There is no specific threat and there is a lot of effort by local authorities to ensure safety. [do Papa]”, Bruno said.
The Pope will visit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan, in sub-Saharan Africa, from 31 January to 5 February.
The Pontiff will use both the closed car and, in some circumstances, the open popemobile for his travels.
The visit of the Catholic leader in the DRC is in complete safety. The concern would not be for the integrity of Francis, but for the risk of criminal groups dropping bombs in places of great concentration of the faithful.
The event that should have the largest number of people is the mass that the Pope will celebrate on February 1 at Ndolo airport, in Kinshasa, DRC. The local press says that at least one million faithful are expected. .
