The networks explode against famous Razzies, the anti-Oscars, after having decided to nominate a 12-year-old girl for worst actress of the year.
They have gone too far, or at least that is what many have pointed out on different social networks after discovering that the Razzies have nominated a 12-year-old girl for worst leading actress of the yearspecifically Ryan Kiera Armstrong, for his work in ‘Eyes of Fire’ (Keith Thomas, 2022), one of Stephen King’s most humane films.
“It must be the most claustrophobic movie, in a completely obsessive way, that one remembers within the genre in recent times.“, commented Fausto Fernández in his review of ‘Ojos de fuego’ that, although it did not slip into the 10 best Stephen King adaptations, it is difficult to understand the animosity among those in charge of celebrating the Golden Raspberry, the famous anti-Oscars created by critic John JB Wilson in 1980 as an amusing critique of the Academy Awards.
The problem with these awards, as with those that do reward excellence, comes when they are taken really seriously., both by the general public and by their potential candidates. Curiously, Ana de Armas has managed to save herself from burning ‘Blonde’, a candidate for eight statuettes, including best film, director and screenplay. ‘Good Mourning’ (Machine Gun Kelly, Mod Sun, 2022) follows with seven nominations and ‘Morbius’ (Daniel Espinosa, 2022), somehow, only has five.
The young Armstrong is not doing badly. After small roles in series like ‘Anne with an E’ and ‘The truth about the Harry Quebert case’, we could see her in another King adaptation, ‘It. Chapter 2’ (Andy Muschietti, 2019), the expendable ‘Tomorrow’s War’ (Chris McKay, 2021) and played the young version of the dangerous Taskmaster in ‘Black Widow’ (Cate Shortland, 2021), from Marvel.
This year we will see her alongside Nicolas Cage in ‘The Old Way’ (Brett Donowho, 2023) and she will appear in the horror film ‘Maternal’ (Megan Follows, 2023).
