The Golden Raspberry Awards (known as the Razzie Awards) are characterized by the fact that they celebrate the worst of cinema every year. There’s even a movie that won more than 10 Razzie Awards and broke records.
In 2023 they will take place on March 11, one day before the Oscar ceremony. Some of the films that received the most nominations are:
‘Blonde’, nominated for 2023 Razzie Awards
Despite the fact that Ana de Armas is part of the Latino candidates for the Oscars 2023, in general “Blonde” did not have the same luck as its protagonist.
That’s because it was the film with the most nominations at the 2023 Razzie Awards (8 in total), including Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor, and Worst Screenplay.
Many fans considered it “the most misogynistic film of the year”, with some calling it “sexist, cruel and pretentious”.
Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’ has been nominated for the 2023 Razzie Awards
While “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Oscars, Disney’s wooden puppet version had completely different results.
It was nominated for worst film of the year at the 2023 Razzie Awards. Additionally, Tom Hanks (who you can also see in A Hologram for the King for free and in Spanish on ViX) is on the worst actress list, for his performance as Gepetto in Disney’s live action.
It also received four other nominations: Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actress and Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel.
“Morbius,” nominated for 2023 Razzie Awards
Since its release, ‘Morbius’ has been critically panned by critics and fans alike. In general, the script, special effects, editing and Jared Leto’s performance in the lead role were questioned.
For these and other reasons, it received multiple nominations at the 2023 Razzie Awards: Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay.
“Jurassic World: Dominion,” nominated for 2023 Razzie Awards
Unfortunately for the ‘Jurassic Park’ universe, its latest film ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ was not well received as it brought the franchise to a close.
According to “Decider”, this film “is a pointless spectacle” and Ross Bonaime of “Collider” described it as “one of the worst blockbusters of recent years”.
For this reason, it was nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel and Worst Screenplay. In addition, Bryce Dallas Howard (who was forced to lose weight for the film) received a nomination for worst actress of the year.
“Elvis,” nominated for 2023 Razzie Awards
Austin Butler was nominated for the 2023 Best Actor Oscar, but his co-star Tom Hanks was not so lucky.
Instead, he received a double Razzie nomination, not only for “Pinocchio,” but also for Worst Supporting Actor for “Elvis.”
As if that wasn’t enough, the famous actor was also nominated for the worst on-screen couple at these awards: “Tom Hanks and his latex-laden face (and ridiculous accent).”
Sequels to ‘365 Days’, Nominated for 2023 Razzie Awards
In 2022, two sequels of “365 DNI” were released: “365 Days: That Day” and “365 More Days”. Both were considered “boring” and “sexist”.
The final installment was described by Ready Steady Cut as “awful and less interesting than the second installment, which is saying a lot.”
For this and other reasons, both films were nominated for Razzie Awards for worst remake/rip-off/sequel of the year.
And you, what do you think was the worst movie of the year? Were you surprised by any of the 2023 Razzie Awards nominations? Tell us in the comments.
