A death in “Better Call Saul” linked to “Breaking Bad”: Jesse’s end improved

In the list of prequels that are better than the original series, “Better Call Saul” stands out, due to the small details that make the plot of some of the main characters better than “Breaking Bad”.

This is the case of Jesse Pinkman, Walter White’s inseparable assistant whose end is better thanks to a tragic event that happened in the Saul Goodman series. Before you continue, be aware that you will find spoilers for the sixth and final season of ‘Better Call Saul’.

Better Call Saul improved the end of Jesse Pinkman

“Breaking Bad” is famous for having one of the best endings in television history, as each of its main characters manages to find a satisfactory exit in its plot.

In Jesse’s case, he manages to escape from captivity and appears to lead to the sunset. Thanks to the movie “El Camino”, produced by Aaron Paul and Netflix, fans know that Heinsenberg’s partner had a new life in Alaska.

The recent episode of “Better Call Saul” not only improves Jesse’s ending in “Breaking Bad”, but confirms that it was the best thing that could have happened to this character.

In the episode “Rock & Hard Place”, Nacho Varga decides to take his fate into his own hands and shoots himself in the head, because he had no other choice after betraying the Salamanca family. During the series, Nacho appeared to be a version of Jesse Pinkman in “Better Call Saul.”

Both characters start working in the underworld of New Mexico when they are young, due to the temptation created by easy money, exaggeration and power. When they realize that life in the drug trade is not as good as they thought, it is too late for them.

Nacho and Jesse receive many warnings of attacks on their loved ones, so at some point in their story they both dream of giving up their criminal lives. The difference is that the protagonist of “Breaking Bad” succeeds.

With dexterity and a little luck, Jesse managed to avoid not only the police but also his former enemies to escape. While Nacho is soon at a dead end, after a few seconds of meditation, he realizes that his only viable option is suicide.

Nacho’s death is a warning about the lives of drug dealers, the barbarity of this world and how ruthless people can become for money.

Jesse could easily have ended up the same way as Nacho, but he managed to turn his life around with all the odds against him. The fact that the character “Better Call Saul” could not do the same thing underscores how important Jesse’s achievement was.

Although to tell the truth, there is another point of view of both endings. Nacho accepts his fate because it is the only way he could guarantee his father’s safety, while on the way to his salvation Jesse suffers the death of many of his loved ones, such as Jane, Andrea and Brock.

His survival brought a heavy emotional price to Jesse who will chase him for the rest of his life, while Nacho’s death came at a heavy price, although he can not see it with his own eyes.
