James Gunn reveals the ‘Gods & Monsters’ phase of the DCU: Featuring Swamp Thing, Superman and more

After he and his collègue PDG de DC Studios, Peter Safran, will announce the première party of his plan for future content based on DC Comics, James Gunn to talk about certain films and upcoming releases, we may wait. And that includes new versions of Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, and more. Watch the announcement here and read the full breakdown below.

Gunn started by confirming that the existing DC movies haven’t been released yet: Shazam! fury of the gods, the flash, blue beetle Yup aquaman and the lost kingdom – all will continue to be released in theaters, with the flash and its universe-resetting nature proves essential in helping usher in the new paradigm. They will lead to what Gunn and Safran call “Gods and Monsters,” actually the first part of the first part of the plan. It will be a mix of TV (both animated and live) and film, with games to plug in as needed.

So what can we expect? Gunn talked about 10 starting titles. For television, the first thing will be anime. commands the creaturewhich appears to include characters such as Weasel (as seen in the suicide squad). Gunn wrote the first batch of episodes and the plan is for the characters to transition from animation to live action, with the same actor voicing and playing the role whenever possible.

There was also confirmation of Lollipop spin-off series wallerwith Viola Davis reprising her role as a fierce fighter of Task Force X, interacting with selected characters from Lollipop. This show will be supervised by Christal Henry who was a television writer. sentinelsand Jeremy Carver who created destiny patrol. The series will be set between the first and second seasons of Lollipop.

Next is one of DC’s big hits: Superman, with which he will really kick off the new DCU Superman: Legacy. Gunn is writing the new take on the hero, and will hopefully direct as well (although that’s yet to be confirmed). And its release date is set for July 11, 2025.

This will be followed by lanterns, which is the latest iteration of the series that has been in development at HBO Max for quite some time. It will be a series set on Earth with Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart (with others appearing) and is described as true detective with a “terrifying mystery” related to the larger universe.

Back in the movies and another one of Gunn’s passionate projects, authority, which will use WildStorm Comics Imprint characters purchased from DC. It’s a very different story of superheroes trying to fix a world they see as broken by any means necessary.

On TV, lost paradise is a show set in Themyscira, the birthplace of Wonder Woman, and described as game of Thrones with the Amazons It is not yet known whether we will meet a new Diana here.

Batman will be brand new to the main DCU on The brave and the brave, adapting Grant Morrison’s run and featuring another Bruce Wayne trying to keep his son, Damien Wayne, in the Robin line. This will launch the “Bat Family” into the cinematic universe.

gold reinforcement It is billed as an HBO series featuring a time traveling underdog from the future who uses the technology of his time to be a hero that people love. Gunn describes it as “superhero imposter syndrome.”

Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow will be a large-scale sci-fi film based on the comedic careers of Tom King and Evely Bilquis. It features a “darker, tougher” version of Kara Zor-El raised on a surviving chunk of Krypton who watches everyone around her die. Cheerful!

finally a new one swamp thing The film will be a horror origin story for the creature, which still runs through the rest of the DCU.

And what about people like Matt Reeves? the Batman or Todd Phillips Jester continuation? They will fall under the general heading “Elseworlds”. “The bar for an Elseworlds story is going to be higher than for a DCU movie,” Gunn says. “It’s not that we won’t always set the bar high, but it has to be something really special for us to tell this story outside of our usual continuity and spend the money to do it.”
