By all accounts, the “lend your account” spree will indeed come to an end. Netflix has finally explained how its new account sharing model will work. As revealed by The streamthe platform has updated its FAQ base and advanced the changes.
Netflix’s decision to review the practice of account sharing came after a survey found more than 100 million households used the service for free thanks to password transfers. The idea is that carefully thought-out changes won’t hurt users, but will also increase the company’s revenue.
The Netflix Help Center now has a page describing how your account should be shared and how it shouldn’t. As for the control of some explanations about the changes are already available on the platform page in Portuguese (look here or follow in the text). The prediction is that the new rules will start to apply again in this first quarter.
How to share your Netflix account?
Now, the Netflix account should only be shared by people living in the same household. People who don’t live in your house have to use their own account to watch Netflix.
When a device outside your home is accessed or used on a regular basis, we may ask you to verify or change your Netflix home before allowing it to play Netflix content. We do this to confirm that the device using the account is authorized to do so.
Netflix will not automatically bill you if you share your account with someone who doesn’t live with you.
Will I not be able to watch Netflix outside the home?
Wrong. If you’re traveling or live with more than one household, you can enjoy Netflix whenever and wherever you want. If you’re the account holder (or live with that person), you won’t need to check your device to watch Netflix most of the time.
If you are away from Netflix for a long time, we may occasionally ask you to check your device. We do this to confirm that the device has proper authorization to use the account.
What will this device verification look like?
Verification is done by a code sent to the registered account email. If the code expires, you’ll need to request another one from the device.
Once verified, this device can be used to watch Netflix. The verification of the appliance can be requested periodically.
How many people can simultaneously watch Netflix on one account?
It depends on your plan. In the basics with ads: 1 device; in the bases: 1 device; by default: 2 devices; on premium: 4 devices.
For shared use with several people, i.e. off plan, an amount will be charged. However, details on the amount and method of the charge were not disclosed.
It’s worth noting that Netflix has yet to issue an official statement on the new policies. To the The streama streaming spokesperson said some of the components of the new plan will be staggered (released gradually) and more complete information should arrive by the end of March.
