‘Indispensable’: Souto MC’s new single arrives on platforms

Collaborating with producer Ort1, the song is about self-esteem and makes the singer proud of her trajectory

Rapper Souto MC released his latest single this week. “Indispensable”, created in collaboration with the music producer Ort1, talks about the self-esteem of the child from Itaquaquecetuba, in Greater San Paolo, who knows well the value of the rhymes he makes.

Not afraid to say how much she deserves to have and where she wants to go, Souto recognizes the strength of her musical trajectory in the lyrics of the song and reflects on the new paths that open up to her this year.

“At the time I was writing the lyrics, I was thinking a lot about this process of getting a foothold in the rap scene and hip hop as a whole. To show myself, not with arrogance, but with self-confidence and with full awareness of the importance of my path and what I’m building here,” she explains.

The collaboration with producer Ort1 began after the two met at a mutual friend’s concert. “We have a very similar musical language. ‘Indispensable’ is a song that Ort1 made three versions of, until we managed to get to this one”, says the artist.

The two previous versions referred first to the trap and then to the modern tonic of the songs of the North American group Spillage Village. But it’s only in the third version that Ort1 includes horns in the beat, which bring the gangster vibe to the rap.

“I wanted it to have this more serious aesthetic,” explains the producer, recounting that the single gained more energy in the final release.

The song arrived on digital platforms on Monday (23), accompanied by a black and white video clip, which has the photograph signed by Renan Pali and Rafael Amaro. In the video, the rapper rhymes in three different scenarios, the most striking of which is a 1963 Chevrolet Impala, also mentioned in the song.

The screenplay, direction and editing are also by Renan Pali and Ort1 himself.

“Indispensable” marks another milestone in Souto’s career after his break from performing during the most critical period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The artist’s previous single, Marcha, released last year, was released on the US website “Remezcla” and entered Elle Magazine’s best of the year list in 2022.

Souto MC began to make itself known in 2017, when she was invited to participate in an edition of Poetisas no Topo, a project of the Pineapple Supply brand that brought together big names from the national scene.

The indigenous singer’s strong rhyme won fans all over Brazil and Souto was considered one of the revelations of the new generation of Brazilian hip hop.

Days before the release of “Indispensable”, she was a special guest at singer Emicida’s concert in São Paulo and performed in front of thousands of people with the song “Selvagem” – made in collaboration with Emicida, Drik Barbosa, Fióti, Dory de Oliveira and Stefania.

On January 1, the singer was among the attractions that performed at the Festival of the Future, in Brasilia, at the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
