Showtime has given the green light to a series about Dexter Morgan’s youth, and is proposing new spin-offs of characters like Trinity Killer.
We already warned last week when it was revealed that Showtime had not given the green light to season 2 of ‘Dexter: New Blood’. The chain was considering several spin-offs, one of them about the youth of our favorite serial killer. Well said and done. ‘Dexter: Origins’ will be about the youth of Dexter Morgan in his hometown, Miami, before the events we witness in the original 2006 series.
‘Dexter: Origins’ will tell us about the adventures of a young Dexter Morgan at the beginning of his transition as the serial killer avenger that he would later become. Set in Miami, which he was a real hotbed of real serial killers in his time (and it has been announced that several of them will be an important part of the series), the show will begin when Dexter graduates from college to join the Miami police as a coroner, and there he will meet the younger versions of the characters we love in the original series.
And of course the series will also focus on Dexter’s family, with a still-alive Harry (there’s no need for flashbacks and daydreams) and a teenage Deb Morgan.
The reboot ‘Dexter: New Blood’ was Showtime’s most-watched series in the US, with more than 8 million viewers per episode, and although a second season has been scrapped for now, the company is considering new spin-offs about some key supporting characters in the original series such as John Lithgow’s Trinity Killerconsidered by many to be Dexter’s best archenemy.
The ‘Dexter’ spin-offs will be overseen by clyde phillipswho served as executive producer for the series’ first four seasons and returned to produce a new ending on ‘Dexter: New Blood’ unhappy with the one the character had previously been given.
And you, do you feel like ‘young dexter‘?
